I'M A TEACHER, ASPIRING AUTHOR, AND BILINGUAL- TODDLER MAMA WHO HAS A THING FOR KID LIT.
hi, i'm betsy!
I fiercely believe that children need to grow into empathetic, imaginative, and curious learners, and that together we have a responsibility to collaborate, not compete, to get them there.
Through Tiny Roots Co., I strive to bring meaningful, creative, and rigorous "evergreen" resources into the hands of passionate teachers, families, tutors, librarians, and anyone else desiring to maintain engaging and complex literature instruction ensuring students reach unexpected and energizing depths.
My resources are designed to enhance the instructional creativity of teachers and meet a variety of student needs through flexible and engaging content.
the big picture
There are three things I cherish most about teaching:
1. Capturing kids' hearts and nurturing a safe, engaged learning space.
2. Celebrating our uniqueness and learning from our differences.
3. Digging into good, hearty children's literature and watching it tug at a kiddo's heart strings.
I've taught in Chicago, Detroit, and Metro Detroit in both 2nd and 4th grade classrooms. I also helped establish my former school's first library as the Library Technology Specialist.
Chicago taught me to advocate. Detroit taught me to protect. Metro Detroit taught me to nourish.
I understand the importance of fostering self-love, care, and confidence and how possessing such things can unlock so many doors for learning. I cherish the honor of watching tiny little roots grow day after day, and I feel so privileged to have helped teach these kids how to love and desire learning.
I'm an INFJ, 3W2, Blue Retriever (I like personality tests. A lot.)
I recently earned my TESOL Certification and can't wait to put it to use!
My husband is from Austria, so our daughter is a bilingual dual-citizen. I'm counting on her to teach me German!
I wrote a middle grade novel. I'll be submitting it for representation once revisions are completed. It's been a WILD ride!
My daughter was born 9 weeks early at just over 2 pounds due to HELLP Syndrome. I'm passionate about spreading awareness! You can read more about my experiences HERE.
